This SIG is championed by David Bartlett of Pyxidium Ltd, Nigel Wall of Shadow Creek Consulting and Peter Montgomery of Ogma Solutions. We are delighted that Plextek has kindly agreed to sponsor this important event.

These facilitated workshops running in parallel will encourage healthy debate and idea sharing, strip apart widely held conceptions and explore the key trends and challenges ahead for ensuring location is top of a user's feature list.

Privacy

  • Whose responsibility is privacy and do governments/the network operators have an obligation to protect users?
  • Who owns disclosure, consent and data security?
  • Just because something is technologically possible doesn't necessarily make it desirable, but do the majority of users really care, or is this a concern not shared by the Twitter generation?

Technology

  • What will be the winning positioning technologies of tomorrow and what are the main challenges facing device manufacturers and service providers?
  • Does accuracy really matter, or are advances in technology just another way for manufacturers to cut other hardware costs?
  • Power is key.  How will technology address the need for constant location awareness whilst ensuring acceptable battery life?
  • What business models will ensure technology companies do not become commoditised in the future?

Context

  • Context is king! Or is it another unsubstantiated promise of riches to advertisers and service providers?
  • How will service providers exploit context?
  • Who owns the users' context, and who will users feel comfortable sharing their context with?

Bring your burning questions and provocative ideas to what promises to be an interesting and stimulating day navigating the world of privacy, technology and context… how do we make location a desirable user experience?
