During the session, Victor Christou, CEO of Cambridge Innovation Capital and Bruce Beckloff, Managing Partner of Bloc Ventures will take you through the venture capital models for their respective businesses and why these models are tailored for the early stage tech start up market to enable long term thinking to grow significant technology companies of global scale. This event will be chaired by David Gill, MD of St John’s Innovation Centre and will conclude with interactive open forum between the speakers and the audience, joined further by Alex McCracken from Silicon Valley Bank, Paul Bailey of Bailey Fisher Executive Search, Board Member of NESTA and Dr Chris Winter from Brightstar Innovations.

Profile of Speakers Bruce Beckloff

Bruce is the Managing Partner and co-Founder of Bloc Ventures, a venture company targeting investment in early stage technology companies. Previous to this, Bruce was with ARM Holdings for 12 years holding a variety of positions during his tenure. Most recently he served as head of Corporate Development responsible for ARM’s corporate strategy development, M&A, and investments activities. Bruce has assisted the UK government as a venture capital Strategic Advisor helping the UK’s high growth early stage companies’ access financing from venture providers.

Victor Christou

Victor has considerable experience on both sides of the investment table. In recent years he has focused his attention on technology investing. Immediately prior to CIC, Victor was at pan-European venture capital investors Wellington Partners, where he was a Venture Partner in the Tech Team. Before that Victor founded Opsys, an organic electronics business focusing on OLEDs and was a member of the team that sold Opsys to Cambridge Display Technology (now owned by Sumitomo Chemicals). Victor has a BSc and PhD in Chemistry from Imperial College, London and was a Sloan Fellow in the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. In the early stages of his career, Victor was an academic at the University of California at Berkeley and then at the University of Oxford, where he was a Royal Society University Research Fellow and Junior Research Fellow at Balliol College. Victor was the Royal Society of Chemistry Entrepreneur of the Year in 2002.
