ISP 44: Health, Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance in Rail Infrastructure

Start date/time :  05/07/16 10:00
End date/time :  05/07/16 17:00
Venue :  National Railway Museum, York
Organiser name :  The Knowledge Transfer Network
Organiser email :  matt.butchers@ktn-uk.org
Organiser tel :  07715082259

This event will bring together the communities of rail infrastructure owners with technology developers to present on innovation advances in these topics. The ISP will as usual be held alongside a showcase of innovative technology. Topics to Explore: Remote Sensing, Embedded Sensing, Diagnostics, Big Data.

Background:

Prognostics, Health Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance – smart maintenance - for infrastructure are vital not only in safety critical applications, but for many other sectors to give competitive advantage. Ultimately, the objective is to provide timely actionable information to enable intelligent decisions – making for improved performance, safety, reliability, and maintainability. Aiming where possible for a move away from interval based maintenance to condition based maintenance.

Additionally, unnecessary, intrusive maintenance on infrastructure is a risky business. The removal of devices and testing can cause unintentional damage to equipment and infrastructure – and in hard to reach land difficult locations, can be a risk to human life.

With the recent dedication to rail infrastructure investments by the UK Governement, this topic is increasingly relevant. With infrastructure elements consisting of bridges, embankments, fences, drainage, the challenges are vast.

There are many technological aspects to infrastructure monitoring. Whilst sensing and instrumentation provide part of the process, what role is there for robotics, embedded systems, satellite / UAV solutions, data analytics for effective, robust decision making?

About the ISP Series:

The ISP events have been the highlight of the Sensors & Instrumentation calendar since the start of the Knowledge Transfer Networks in 2006 and the Faraday Partnerships that preceded them. The core strength of the ISP events is that they aim to showcase new sensing technologies irrespective of their core target markets. This focus on exciting, novel technologies and their applications sits firmly with the Knowledge Transfer Network's aim of encouraging interactions, which otherwise would not happen.

Exhibitors

There is the opportunity for companies to exhibit at the 44th Intelligent Sensing Event. Exhibitors will have tickets for two to attend, a small (1 x 2 m) table top, space to exhibit and information in the event literature and promotion.
