Insights with an Entrepreneur

We launch a short series of 'Fireside chats' with entrepreneurs across a range of sectors and across the Region. This series is hosted by Allia and on this occasion facilitated by journalist Matt Gooding from Cambridge News. We invite you to hear the personal journey and insights from those that have launched new start ups, grown and established a business and then in many cases started another venture and continued that journey of launch, growth and scale up over and over. Delve into the mind of an entrepreneur, ask what motivates them and how they sustain themselves within today's fast moving business and start up climate. Join us for an early evening filled with personal insights and revelations from our guest speakers, facilitated by local journalists and followed by business networking. We launch this series with our first speaker from the field of healthcare and most topically, mental healthcare - Barnaby Perks from Ieso Digital Health.

"Building Ieso Digital Health from its earliest stage to a proven commercial platform in the UK and USA has been both a rewarding and challenging journey. Not only are there technological and team challenges to overcome, but Ieso was also faced with the additional complexity of working with the NHS, and encouraging NHS England to recognise the full value of digital platforms has been our biggest challenge to date. Cambridgeshire’s reputation as the UK’s leading technology cluster is sustained by being at the forefront of developments in science and technology. Ieso have used both technology and clinical research to develop a secure service that can be accessed anywhere, at any time, and eliminates the wait for mental health treatment.  Improving people’s lives on a daily basis has been incredibly rewarding and the reason I continually persevere." Barnaby Perks, Ieso Digital Health.

Barnaby Perks Barnaby Perks is an engineer who has specialised in the commercialisation of healthcare technology.  Following a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and Economics and MSc in Biomedical Engineering, both from the University of Dundee in Scotland, he started his career in NHS hospital-based academic research at the University of Dundee before working in small business start-ups developing assistive technology products for people with complex disabilities.  After leading the trade sale of two health technology businesses, Cambridge Adaptive Communication and GEWA UK, he transferred into a Global Strategic Marketing role with GE’s geospatial information software business.  Barnaby joined Ieso Digital health (then PsychologyOnline) as CEO in January 2011, raising investment to start the company’s commercial journey following successful publication of clinical trial data in The Lancet.  Barnaby has grown Ieso to become a significant provider of NHS-commissioned mental health services, delivering high quality, clinically validated and cost effective therapy. https://www.linkedin.com/in/barnaby-perks-813536/

Ieso Digital Health

Ieso Digital Health uses internet technology to augment accredited therapists delivering cognitive behavioural therapy.  The result is better outcomes with reduced therapist input (40% fewer sessions than traditional face-to-face therapy) making more efficient use of scarce therapist resources.  Data captured during therapy are anonymised and analysed to improve therapist performance and patient outcomes.  https://uk.iesohealth.com/
