SDK Technical Author

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an SDK Technical Author to join our successful and expanding engineering team at RealVNC.

The company RealVNC® is a highly successful software company based in Cambridge (UK) city centre. As the original developers of VNC® remote access technology our software is used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide from the non-technical home user to IT professionals from global companies, such as Intel, IBM, NASA, Shell, DreamWorks and Philips.

The role

As an SDK Technical Author, you’ll be responsible for testing reference platforms and documenting procedures, sample applications and SDKs that enable the biggest names in the mobile and automotive industries to embed VNC-based remote access and control technology in their products and services. Working autonomously, but reporting to the Lead Technical Author, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality and consistency of our documentation at RealVNC whilst keeping issues surrounding product quality and user experience at the forefront at all times.

For this role, we are also happy to consider IT professionals who would like to write in a highly technical environment, or IT graduates with a keen interest in cutting-edge technology and communication. You:

  • have good experience using Linux or Android. An understanding of networking technologies or experience documenting C, C++ or Java APIs would also be highly desirable
  • have the ability to communicate complicated issues and procedures clearly
  • have a passion for producing timely, literate, aesthetic, error-free documentation
  • have an acute eye for detail, and desire to lead on issues of product quality and user experience
  • can master new concepts and technologies quickly
  • are an approachable team player, but conscientious and capable when working alone
  • have the flexibility to contribute to the work of other teams if priorities change

Anything else? As well as the above, if you have experience with any of the following technologies then we’d like to know about it!

  • familiarity with System-on-Chip or single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi
  • experience of embedded operating systems such as Windows CE or QNX
  • rooting and flashing of Android devices
  • development using the Android or iOS SDKs
  • understanding of networking concepts, hardware, and protocols
  • familiarity with technologies such as USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFB, RTP and UPnP

This role offers a unique opportunity to join our Mobile and Automotive team, working for a successful, growing company with a recognised global brand and huge potential and vision. If you’re successful, you’ll be compensated with an attractive package which will be appropriate to your skills and experience. We also offer generous benefits, including a contributory pension, childcare vouchers, and private dental and medical care. This is a full-time post, but we believe in a healthy work / life balance, so it’s 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday).
