Electronics Engineer ID: 1223

We are seeking a talented, dynamic, electronic and software engineer who can work across the analogue/digital divide, building interfaces to novel sensors and devices. You’ll be designing systems, then getting in the lab to test, debug and programme them, working in concert with the rest of our team of scientists and engineers to create the best outcomes for our clients.

The Role

We are looking for a talented electronic and software engineer to join the highly multi-disciplinary Sensors and Devices group, helping to build high performance electronic systems around novel sensor designs. As part of this team you will work across electronics from analogue front ends to algorithm development and data processing, designing the low level interface for the sensor but also the software that retrieves, interprets and outputs the data. You’ll be working closely with the other scientists and engineers in our group to understand the requirements and tailor what you build to the experiments that we need to run. This is a role for an engineer with a strong background in theory, but also the desire to get hands on in the lab building and testing the systems you design.

You will rapidly develop systems for the devices we design and build for our clients, and you’ll stay involved in the project from beginning to end: from initial specification to final performance testing. You must have excellent communication and time management skills to manage the demands of working on several projects at the same time.

As part of this dynamic, creative, and inventive team you’ll be given the room to grow your technical skills and specialise in the areas where you excel while retaining the broad variety of day to day work. Invention is also a big part of what we do – the group is constantly searching for the next big market opportunity and is ready to invest in your ideas. With opportunities for client contact from day one you’ll be interacting with our clients and showing them the best of what TTP has to offer.

Qualifications and Training

  • 1st or Upper 2nd Class Masters degree from a top engineering university.

Skills and Experience

  • You’ve designed electronic systems and you have hands-on experience of building, testing and debugging electronic circuits.
  • You understand the theory of sensor and instrumentation circuit building blocks – amplifiers, filters and data converters.
  • You know how to use an electronic CAD package like Altium, OrCAD or EAGLE to draw your schematics and, preferably, to design PCBs.
  • You should be fluent in at least one programming language, a low level language like C or a high level language like Python. You’ve used source control systems and know about good software engineering practices.
  • You have experience of working with both computers and microcontrollers and are familiar with embedded development tools. The Arduino ecosystem is one example, but experience of other processor environments is a plus.
