AI: friend or a foe for future telecoms? Impacts of AI on security and privacy

Discussions will be centred around the threats of bad actors weaponizing AI, development of robust encryption methods, the implementation of stringent access controls, and the incorporation of ethical considerations into AI deployment. The speakers will highlight how stakeholders can collaborate to navigate this complex landscape to protect networks and uphold user rights.

At this event we will be discussing challenging and thought-provoking topics related to privacy and security in future telecom networks. Example topics include AI's increased ability to gather, assemble and act on sensitive data about humans, AI’s role in either enhancing or challenging authentication methods, and the potential synergy of AI with quantum technology to potentially disrupt ciphering mechanisms.

Delving into the intriguing intersection of AI and quantum computing and its potential to disrupt conventional ciphering methods, how will AI algorithms, combined with the computational power of quantum computers, potentially challenge existing encryption systems, thereby necessitating the development of quantum-resistant cryptographic protocols?

Finally, we also intend to discuss some other topics like those involving pictures, videos and other information whose authenticity cannot be verified. Thanks to deepfake and other advanced manipulating software, the lines between fact and fiction have really blurred. Academia and industry are working on various evolving methods of voice, image, and data authentication enabled by AI. The speakers will look at approaches such as multi-modal biometric authentication, verification, and potential vulnerabilities disclosure to avoid a deepfake world where we do not know what to believe or who to trust?
