The Future of Urban Movement
The Future of Urban Movement
The Smart Cities SIG is putting on a pub social at the well-known and friendly Maypole Freehouse in Cambridge. The event will start at 6:30pm (with registration and time to get a drink from 6pm) and short talks from experts in the Smart Cities space who will explore the changing needs of citizens for transport in cities and towns, and examine the challenges of meeting these needs in a sustainable way. We have a private room upstairs booked until 8:30pm after which delegates are welcome to continue networking in the bar area downstairs.
Registered delegates are entitled to one free drink from the bar on CW.
Background to the talks:
Covid significantly disrupted the way that people move around and between cities and towns. This had led to city authorities having to reimagine the future and adapt to these changes. Core to this has been the collection and use of data, utilising new technologies to both better understand where, when and how people are moving. Authorities are developing better tools and models to understand and plan for the future, including visualisations, models and digital twins. Regions are seeing new modes of transport emerge such as electric scooters, demand-responsive transport and shared vehicles to meet this new demand. How can cities begin to integrate these modes into a user friendly transport system and ensure that we are supporting a move from the car to more sustainable modes?
Access:
Unfortunately there is no access for wheelchair users to the private room upstairs where the talks will take place. However, delegates are welcome to network in the bar area downstairs as well.
Speakers include:
- Megan O'Connor - Head of Strategic Partnerships, Vivacity Labs
- Andy Walker - Commercial Director, Ito World
