Dr Amanda Prorok (Department of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge) and Ellie Wooldridge (Connected Places Catapult) will share current research into both safety and end-user acceptability of autonomous vehicles, especially in mixed human- and self-driven settings:
-
How can one design a machine learning environment that leads to safe driving policies for autonomous vehicles in a mixed-reality setup, where autonomous vehicles mingle with static objects and human-driven cars? Amanda's talk will, amongst other considerations, illustrate the Prorok Lab's unique sim3real virtual domain approach to this design challenge.
-
'How are vehicle occupants building trust in autonomous vehicles?' Ellie will talk about results from autonomous vehicle studies such as the the HumanDrive project about how vehicle occupants build trust when being driven by an autonomous system compared with a human driver.
The event will be run as Zoom Meeting, with Q&A and breakout rooms, without recording. Attendance is free. Please register your interest on Zoom; this will help us with the running of this virtual event.
Your sign-up details are collected for the purpose of the webinar only and will not be made available to third parties, in accordance with GDPR principles. You will receive a joining link and password automatically after registration.
The Meetings are planned as a way to help you connect with other people who share your same interest in the digital world, so just bring a glass of any drink you like and enjoy an informative as well as refreshing digital happy hour.

Speakers:
Dr Amanda Prorok
Amanda is Assistant Professor (University Lecturer) in the Department of Computer Science and Technology and lead investigator at the Prorok Lab.
The lab's mission is to find new ways of coordinating artificially intelligent agents (e.g., robots, vehicles, machines) to achieve common goals in shared physical and virtual spaces. Prior to joining Cambridge, Amanda Prorok was a postdoctoral researcher at the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception (GRASP) Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, She completed her PhD at EPFL, Switzerland.
Ellie Wooldridge
Ellie holds a degree in Human Factors Design from Louhgborough University. After a spell in user design research at Jaguar Land Rover she joined the Transport Catapult. Ellie is currently the Research & Human Factors Acting Team Lead at the Connected Places Catapult. The Catapult aims to accelerate smarter living and travelling in and between the places of tomorrow.
