About Detlef

Detlef Nauck is the Head of BT’s AI Research programme in BT’s Digital organisation and a BT Distinguished Engineer. Detlef's research programme analyses the impact the latest trends and developments in AI will have on BT and its customers. Detlef’s team helps BT navigate and compete in the emerging AI world and produces original AI research and intellectual property where it is of particular importance to BT.

Detlef has a keen interest in establishing best practices in AI and Machine Learning leading to the deployment of safe, responsible, and auditable AI solutions that are driving real business value. The AI research programme currently has a strong focus on Generative AI, but also covers AI for Software Engineering, AI Infrastructure, AI Fairness, Deep Fake Detection, Distributed AI, and the social impact of AI adoption.

Detlef is a computer scientist by training and holds a PhD and a Postdoctoral Degree (Habilitation) in Machine Learning and Data Analytics. He has over 30 years of experience in AI & Data, and he is a Visiting Professor at Bournemouth University and a Private Docent at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg, Germany. He has published 3 books, over 120 papers, holds 15 patents and has 30 active patent applications.
