To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Impact Women’s Network’s #ImpactWednesday session for March is dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality.
This goal states that “gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world”.
Entrepreneurship has a huge role to play in delivering on this goal or not - and every entrepreneur and investor impacts and is impacted by it.
For this very special session – which is being hosted at The Bradfield Centre on Wednesday 4th March 9am-11am - we are delighted to be joined by angel investor, Simon Thorpe, chair of Cambridge Angels, who will be talking about their initiative to increase both the number of female investors and the proportional representation in their investments.
A spokesperson from RBS will also be sharing details of their new £1 Billion Women's Entrepreneurship fund.
Dr Shima Barakat, co-founder of Impact Women's Network will additionally be outlining the current state of women’s entrepreneurship in Cambridge, the UK and globally; the risks to business; the link with sustainability and new initiatives that have recently been launched recently to get behind to amplify their impact.
Dr Barakat says: “With the intertwined nature of gender, sustainability and prosperity, the questions and challenges that face us now are, in fact, risks that we can no longer ignore.
“This session is for every entrepreneur, investor, professional, academic, human being who want to make a difference and increase their individual and organisational impact.”
Impact Women’s Network is a network of female professionals united in raising the public visibility of impactful women and instigating even greater change together, beyond individuals and individual organisations.
The group meet the first Wednesday of every month, 9-11am, at various locations in Cambridge. These morning meetings are grounded in women sharing their expertise as well as their experience through Impact Talks, group activities and discussions. For 2020, the monthly sessions are focused on the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals to help end poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, spur economic growth, tackle climate change and preserve our oceans and forests.
