Internet for all - what a journey, what a destination, and still some way to go
Mobile and Internet are two of the biggest inventions of the last century. How did we get to where we are today and what still needs to be done? More than Voice to Volume, Value and Variety of services.
Dr Mike Short, Chief Scientific Adviser to the Department for International Trade and 30 year veteran of the communications industry will reflect on the journey traversed by the mobile communication industry: 25 years of messaging; 20 years of camera phones; 15 years of smartphones; E-Commerce and data-driven investment; the rise and rise of Social media; the shift from Distributed to Cloud Computing; the response to the Pandemic; and the link to all the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals
Given all these developments still, 50 % of the world is not connected to the Internet. Mike will go to explore the new driving forces today towards innovation, inclusion, and more investment, new Research challenges and the role of Government, Universities and Industry. What priorities lie ahead in governmental and International innovation strategies?
