Proving Sync over Ethernet works
Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, 9 March 2009 – Chronos Technology contributed equipment to the Interoperability Showcase organised by EANTC AG (European Advanced Networking Test Centre) at the MPLS & Ethernet World Congress which provides
network operators with an in-depth view into the latest advances in MPLS and Ethernet based solutions.Chronos provided Rubidium clock sources and SyncWatch synchronisation monitoring probes, which combined with Calnex’s Paragon in-line impairment test system, successfully demonstrated a total sync testing solution for service providers considering or implementing Next Generation Networks.
In advance of the MPLS event, a series of rigorous tests took place at EANTC’s lab in Berlin. Supported by Chronos, Calnex Solutions successfully participated in the interoperability testing of the Precision Time Protocol (IEEE 1588 v2) and Synchronous Ethernet as viable solutions for clock synchronisation of mobile base station. The testing was conducted with the Rubidium, SyncWatch and Paragon products.
The combination of SyncWatch probe and Paragon ensures that E1 or 2MHz timing performance and packet delay variation or 1588v2 / NTP timing errors may be simultaneously monitored and correlated. This important data enables applications and network equipment to be fully evaluated so that risks associated with their deployment in existing networks can be quantified. As operators migrate to NGN architectures they need assurance that synchronisation over Ethernet or IP/MPLS works before they deploy it to carry customer traffic.
