Fairfax County dominates Washington Technology list
Washington Technology magazine published its 2011 list of the 100 largest government contractors, and 26 of the firms are based in Fairfax County or have U.S. headquarters there.Another 42 companies on the list are based elsewhere, but also have operations in the county.
Four of the top 10 companies on the Washington Technology list are headquartered in Fairfax County: Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics, which are based in the Falls Church area of the county, and Tysons Corner-based Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and Booz Allen Hamilton. Fairfax County companies won £13.78 billion in federal contracts (£9.2 billion in defence agency work, £4.57 billion in civilian agency work) in fiscal year 2009, according to the U.S. Census Bureau Consolidated Federal Funds Report. That was the second-highest total for any U.S. locality.
