Chronos presenting at AVCIS and IAATI Joint National Vehicle Crime Conference

‘Detecting GPS Jammers "Gone in 20 Seconds" - An update on UK research into the GPS jamming threat’

Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, UK – 16 September 2014, Prof. Charles Curry, Managing Director of Chronos Technology will deliver ‘Detecting GPS Jammers “Gone in 20 Seconds” – An update on UK research into the GPS jamming threat’ at the National Vehicle Crime Conference (24 & 25 Sept 2014), which is being held jointly by the Association of Chief Police Offers (ACPO) Vehicle Crime Intelligence Services (AVCIS) who work with law enforcement agencies and industry tackling organised vehicle crime; and the UK branch of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI), a strategic player in the vehicle crime arena, partnering with trusted organisations who are service providers in intelligence, enforcement, prevention and disruption activities.

The theme of the conference is ‘Disabling The Vehicle-Enabled Criminal’ and research in the UK by Chronos Technology, who led the GAARDIAN and SENTINEL projects, clearly illustrates the emerging threat of low cost GPS jammers for Jamming Assisted Crime (JAC). Recent evidence points to organised crime using more powerful devices with a much wider area of GPS denial as explained in the recent SENTINEL Project Report.

A car thief can steal a car or asset in 20 seconds and be instantly invisible by using a GPS jammer to neutralise the GPS enabled tracking system. Technology created by Chronos is now available to watch for these jammers. This technology can be deployed in vehicles, in fixed locations to geolocate the jammers and collocated with ANPR systems.

This paper will provide an update on the latest GPS Jamming vulnerability detection and threat analysis enabled by Innovate UK’s grant assisted projects - SENTINEL and AJR.
