CW Techsters digital skills programme returns for third year

CW (Cambridge Wireless) Techsters is returning for its third year, helping young people realise their tech industry ambitions and become the innovators of the future.

Through a mix of online and in-person events, CW Techsters enables young people aged 16-22 to learn about the basics of technologies like AI, IoT and 5G, while challenging them to think about real-world issues such as tackling sustainability through future tech innovations. The programme promotes digital inclusion and is free to take part.

Launching as part of Cambridge Tech Week Conversations, Stage 1 of our online digital skills programme is now open:

Participants can earn up to 9 CW Techsters digital skills badges that recognise over 90 employment skills tags to support their continuous learning pathways and connect them to local job opportunities. This is enabled through the partnership with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Region of Learning, Skills and Opportunity (CPRoLSO).

Over 200 digital badges were given out to the CW Techsters' participants in our three-stage programme last year.

‘CW Techsters helped me to learn about current ways in which technology and artificial intelligence are applied to different industries while also giving me a chance to devise ideas to problems and work with other students, mirroring a work environment.’
Zakariya Ghadialy, Student at SOAS University of London, CW Techsters 2022

‘I have been inspired by the mentors I met at the CW Techsters workshop event. It has broadened my perspective on all the different career paths that technology can lead to. For me, being able to create a prototype of an interactive pet was the highlight of the bootcamp. It taught me how coding can produce a real working system rather than a theoretical one. Thank you very much for the opportunity!’
Julia Adamson, Student at ARU, CW Techsters 2022

CW Techsters, created and led by Patricia Chan, Head of Business Development for CW, features contributions from a diverse range of industry leaders to illustrate how technology skills are applied in all sectors; representatives from Anglian Water, 1Nce, Humans in the Loop, PwC, Huawei and other partners share their tech journeys, knowledge, and expertise with participants.

Patricia Chan, Head of Business Development and Digital Skills Project Lead at CW, said:
“We are very encouraged by the positive testimonials from our past cohorts and partners in the short time that we have been delivering the CW Techsters programme. There is still a very real need to narrow the gap of under-representation in the technology industry; and CW remains committed with our community to foster an inclusive and innovative workforce for the future.”
