Transition to IEC 62368-1 from IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065

Before granting market access, many countries now require audio/video and information and communication technology equipment to comply with IEC 62368-1, replacing IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1.

To gain market access in many countries, manufacturers must ensure that their products comply with IEC 62368-1, the safety standard for audio/video (AV) and information and communication technology equipment.

Governments around the world introduce regulations to protect their citizens from potential safety risks.
Most governments recognize International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards as proof of compliance to release national safety certifications and allow products to enter their countries.

IEC 62368-1, a hazard-based safety engineering (HBSE) safety standard for AV and information and communication technology (ICT) equipment, replaces IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1.

Many countries have implemented IEC 62368-1 as the minimum requirement for local market access. On a global scale, the situation takes on complexity, as many countries still accept IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1, whereas other countries have implemented IEC 62368-1:2014 (second edition) or IEC 62368-1:2018 (third edition). Manufacturers must ensure compliance to the required edition of the IEC 62368-1 standard for each specific country.

The following table shows the dates of transition to IEC 62368-1 until 2023:
