The AI SIG has been created to inform and support the CW member community in the opportunities and challenges raised by AI.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is enjoying a renaissance, as improved compute capability, availability of massive quantities of data, ubiquitous access to cloud-based server farms, and fruitful advances in academic research, create the perfect disruptive storm. Seasoned researchers talk about the advent of an AI summer – often having personally endured difficult ‘AI winters’ in the past, where AI failed to deliver on the over-hyped expectations of others.

With AI in the news almost every day now, there is an urgent need for us all to become better informed, and to be able to separate the hype from reality for the benefit of the businesses we represent.

The AI SIG invites leading researchers, technologists, entrepreneurs, problem owners, and others with a perspective, to share their knowledge and experience with us through thought-provoking SIG events. Over time, we seek to cultivate a community of learners and practitioners, turning the promise of AI into practical solutions with market and societal benefits.

The goals of this SIG are:

  • to demystify the topic of AI for members

  • to explore practical solutions for members looking to build AI capability into new businesses, or transform existing businesses

  • to chart out a roadmap for AI, navigating the risks of either being too hyperbolic or too cautious
to explore how AI is likely to disrupt particular industry verticals, and how to ensure you are amongst the disruptors rather than the disrupted!

  • to understand the opportunities to optimise AI through next generation hardware and software architectures

  • to consider the societal and ethical issues around the applications of AI
